JENGA Project - Clean Water Supply for Uganda
Eutopia is delighted to be sponsoring JENGA,
a Ugandan-based charity, in its ongoing project to supply
remote villages with clean, purified water.
Many villages in Uganda have no access to clean water and
are forced to drink water that is contaminated. Sadly almost
half of all infant mortality in this country is caused by
drinking such 'dirty' water. As part of its continued 'Global
Community' initiatives, Eutopia is delighted to be sponsoring
JENGA in a number of its projects in the Mbale region of
Uganda.
Our first collaboration was on the Mooni Parish Water Supply
project. This commenced in March 2005, and was based on
a staged approach, consisting of the following four phases:
-
Phase 1 - Optimisation of existing water
supply
-
Phase 2 - Rehabilitation of the existing
water distribution system
-
Phase 3 - Provision of supplementary
drinking water supply
-
Phase 4 - Provision of sand filtration
and other treatment processes
All stages were supported by an integrated
education and training programme on health awareness and
sanitation.
The completion of the project so far has provided significant
benefits to Mooni Parish, not just in terms of cleaner water,
but also increased building capacity, improved organisational
abilities (these projects are always collaborative) and
improved health education.
Eutopia is delighted that our financial assistance is going
straight into these projects and we think that the pictures
speak for themselves. As ever, do not hesitate to contact
Eutopia's Managing Director if you too would like to
contribute (or assist in) this worthwhile cause.
PCCP - PALLISA CHILDREN'S CONCERN PROJECT
Further to our recent announcement, we are
delighted to be providing funding for the Pallisa Children's
Concern Project school. This new school will cater for the
250 orphaned children who are directly sponsored by The
Friends of PCCP,as well as a further 350 other disadvantaged
children from neighbouring villages.
This fantastic charity provides support,
food, healthcare and sponsored education to children who
have been orphaned through war and AIDS in East Uganda.
Robby Keen, PCCP's Director in Uganda comments:
"It is difficult for people in the 'West' to comprehend
just how little these children have, both materially and
by way of a future. By providing practical or financial
assistance, we can begin to ensure that at the very least,
these children have the motivation to begin to craft a future
for themselves. On behalf of the children at PCCP, thank
you all for your words of encouragement and for all your
help."

you too could help with this worthwhile charity.

DEAFinIT
Eutopia is delighted to announce its support
of the DEAFinIT project. DEAFinIT is a registered charity
formed in 1997 with the primary aim of working with the
UK's deaf community, providing support, practical assistance
and training - all through the use of new technology.
DEAFinIT's Chief Executive, Mr Lloyd Davis, comments, "IT
is a great leveller for deaf people and a great facilitator
for learning. We aim to provide three main areas of support
- basic literacy training, basic technology training and
perhaps our most ambitious area, an NVQ recognised IT skills
training course that leads to employment in the IT sector.
Through Eutopia's generous support and constant encouragement,
we can continue to provide this essential help to our users,
develop new innovative ways of delivering this service (watch
out for our new DEAFweb site), and benefit from Eutopia's
links to the commercial IT world."
