Gut busting sit-ups

If you've never done sit-ups before, here's a reason to do so: bikini season. If you want a stomach so flat you can rest your pina colada on it, there's only one way: sit-ups!

1. Lie on the floor with feet and shoulders apart and hands by your ears. Slowly raise your shoulders off the floor and - most importantly- holding your tummy in. Control the movement, raising your shoulders to a slow count of two and lowering them again to a slow count of two. Beginners should try two sets of then intermediates three sets of 15; and advanced three sets of 25.

2. To get rid of your love handles, bend both knees to one side of your body. Then, keeping your shoulders square, repeat your sit-ups with your chin pointing towards the opposite hip. This will help strengthen your back and slim down your waist. Do the same number of repetitions as above and don't forget to repeat on the other side. Stick to eating plenty of fruit and fibre and don't give up - you'll soon be enjoying all the attention that you'll get on the beach.

Dennis's tip: To vary your sit-up routine, lift your feet in the air. Keeping one elbow on the floor, reach up for the opposite ankle. Make sure your legs are straight and alternate from side to side, lowering your shoulders back to the floor in between. When you've finished, roll over onto your tummy, keep your elbows on the floor and lift up your torso to stretch. Then knock back your pina colada - you've earned it
